THE ENGAGEMENT
madrid — MAY 19, 2024
THERE ARE ALWAYS TWO SIDES to EVERY STORY
HIS
“I decided to propose to Sofia while reflecting on New Year’s Day. I realized that she was the one I wanted to build a life and spend the rest of my days with. I first asked for my parents’ blessing, and with the help of my sister I found the perfect stone! Once the ring was ready, I mustered the courage to ask for her parents’ blessing. I was both so nervous and excited at the same time! Finally the day came and a few days before my birthday, I proposed to Sofia. Her YES was the best gift ever.
It was such a joy doing it in the presence of both our families and I am so blessed to marry not only my love, but my best friend.”

HERs
“I was led to believe that Rupert and his family were travelling to Europe for a birthday trip last May, and were passing through Madrid for their first couple of days. On the day of the engagement, they had a free afternoon, so we made plans to spend it in the park. We were enjoying what seemed to be a regular Sunday stroll, when Rupert started acting strange. I had a feeling something was going on and a few minutes later, I found myself overcome with emotions — laughing, crying, and silently squealing a bit — as my best friend knelt before me with a ring and a promise of forever. How could I say no to that?”

How it started
(This was the real proposal moment btw)
—
Sofia and Rupert met in 2012 during their freshman year of college. They started off as friends and got closer over the years. It was such a natural and comfortable friendship that withstood all seasons of growing into adulthood. They were simply always there for one another, be it to celebrate an achievement, to get each other through the most challenging times, or for moments as mundane as grabbing lunch and walking to class. It was not until over 4 years later when they realized how all of this, the very core of their friendship, would make for the best foundation for something more.
Through their years of friendship, a number of people predicted that they would eventually end up together. Funnily enough, Sofia and Rupert were the last 2 people to believe it, and here we are 12 years later. Turns out they were right.
